Learning Updates
Literacy: This week, we learned about different genres of books, including myths, fables, legends, realistic fiction, and nonfiction types like informational, autobiographies, and biographies. We started a new type of writing called circle story writing, where how the story begins is how it ends! We read lots of circle stories to get ideas first. Then we went through the writing process by planning first, writing it down, editing and revising.
Math: Students have started a new topic called FRACTIONS! We learned about numerators and denominators. We also wrote fractions and named them depending on the picture. Grade 3s even created a pizza (paper one, of course) to practice!
Science: We started another new topic! It's called Living Systems. This week was all about food chains, including producers, consumers and decomposers. Students also worked in partners to make a food chain poster!
Social Studies: Grade 3s are starting to learn about government in Alberta. We talked about the municipal government, and how they support the local communities, cities or towns. We also learned about their leaders, like mayors, reeves and chiefs. Ask your child more!!
Wellness: We are continuing to learn about animal safety and this week, we looked at different pictures of dogs to read their body language and wrote down information using a Venn Diagram. Then we decided if we would pet them or not.
