March 29-April 2 & April 6-10

Important Updates

1. It's great to be back! The students all welcomed me back with such warm smiles! It's been a great week of catching up and learning too. I hope you all had a wonderful Spring break and week with Ms. Dang.

2. Two important forms were sent home this week. Please return them as soon as possible. One is the field trip form and the other is the School Nutrition Program form!

3. I will be giving students another "Show What You Know" assessment at the end of April around addition, subtraction, regrouping, multiplication, division, and word problems. These are the foundational skills I want all students to have before the end of the school year. I will send home these assessments after they're marked, and I will include areas that I suggest your child to work on.

4. Thursday, April 16 is Fun Lunch!

Learning Updates

Literacy: Over these last two weeks, students have reviewed paragraph writing and detailed sentences through stations and daily practice. We also went through the entire writing process: planning, drafting, writing, editing, revising, and publishing. We wrote about Spring Break, and made predictions for the Rover's story.

Math: Students have been reviewing polygons and learning about transformations. We also engaged in a fun activity where Grade 3s made their own esti-mystery! Basically, students had to think of a number and provide 3-5 clues to see if other students can find out what their number is.

Social Studies: Grade 3s focused on learning about a wide range of protected areas in Alberta, including Banff National Park. We learned about them on the iPads, drew pictures of them and wrote why we believe these areas should be protected.

Science: We started a new topic around safety! Students are learning about how to read a dog's body language, feelings and behaviour. We also learned about therapy dogs and what their jobs could be.

Wellness: Our students required some review of what self-regulation means, different tools we can use when we are upset, and how small problems should have a small reaction.

Art: Our focus this past week was around Spring. We made a beautiful bunny art with oil pastels, pencil crayons, and silhouettes.

Field Study: We did a Sound Map outside to connect to nature using our sense of hearing.

Student Highlights

Charvi said: On Monday, we did Finish Up Friday even though it's Monday. We finished our Spring Break writing and we also did the Social Studies resources and we also did the esti-mystery activity. If you were done all of those, you could play Rush Hour game.

Aram said: On Thursday, me, Idres, Salaar, Guntaaj, Rayan and Yoon were racing. I kept getting a really large head start for some reason.

Guntaaj said: On Thursday, we had Literacy stations and my first station was cursive handwriting and it was copying a paragraph about an animal. I copied a paragraph of King Snake in cursive. And in my second station, I was listening to reading and I listened to "Tiger VS Grizzly Bear".

Mila said: On Friday, we had Art and we made a bunny with some background. We cut out the shape of the bunny we wanted, and we coloured it with pastel. We cut it out and put it on a black paper. Then we drawed with some light pencil crayons, we drawed some flowers and leaves.

Yoon said: On Friday, we had Mustard Must Do and we had to finish predictions for Rover story, and cursive handwriting practice, and polygon pets, and other stuff like Science.
