 Important Reminders and Updates

Trustee Ms. Hack visited our classroom this week and read us two books to kick off Literacy Weeks! Try your best to read as much as you can in the upcoming weeks. CBE also shared some fun activities for families during Literacy Week.

Learning Updates

Literacy: This week, we reviewed different skills that readers should have. These include making connections to different text, to themselves and to the world. Other reading skills that we practiced are making predictions and inferences using clues from a story or book. Students also did their January best monthly writing. They had opportunities to write about any given topic from a choice board using paragraph form.

Math: Grade 3s continued to learn about polygons and focused on different polygon names, as well as how to sort them using geometric properties (ie. number of sides, angles, vertices). We then finished the week with a Show What You Know to share our knowledge!

Science: Students did some experiments around weathering and erosion. See the videos below if you want to try them at home! We also learned about ten natural events, including earthquakes, tsunamis, floods and more. Ask your child more about them! Students also learned about different slow processes that change Earth's surface, like how wind, water or ice can create sand dunes, or sea rocks, or pathways.

  

Student Highlights

Emma said: On Monday in our classroom, we had a special visitor and her name is Ms. Hack. She read two books to us today and we made flags and special things for her to bring to her desk and we were so good when we read the books that Ms. Qi gave us a class star. 

Ryker said: On Monday in recess, me, Yui, Angela and Xavier played together!

Angela said: On Tuesday in Art, we did sketching and we sketched the Calgary Tower. 

Aryan said: On Tuesday, in gym, we were playing basketball and I didn't get a ball a single time. 

Aram said: On Thursday in gym, we played basketball but Mr. Newton said it was the last day. Then some of us were on blue team and some were on red team with Ms. Schumacher's class. I scored with the dice!

Xavier said: We did had recess on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
