Important Updates and Reminders
1. See you at Parent Teacher Conferences (Thursday Nov 27 and Friday Nov 28)! No school on Friday the 28th.
2. Please remember to dress appropriately for the weather!
3. On every Wednesday in December, you are welcome to wear festive wear, like Christmas sweaters, socks, hats...etc.
Learning Updates
Literacy: The students focused on procedural writing. We wrote recipes, instructions for a game, and how to do a specific task, like building a snowman. We also practiced our suffixes by using a special four box chart. Some of the suffixes have specific rules and we learned about those too!
Math: We are practicing double digit addition and subtraction using various strategies, including Base 10 rods, break apart method and the stacking method or standard algorithm. We also reviewed fact families and showed how addition can be connected to subtraction.
Science: Grade 3s learned the last few topics in Matter, including permanent and reversible changes. We also did a few experiments to look at these changes!
Social Studies: This week, students used Chromebooks to learn about five different historical sites in Alberta. They included Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump, Heritage Park, Fort Edmonton, Writing on Stone, and Bar U Ranch.
Student Highlights
Angela said: On Monday, we got new class jobs and new seating arrangements.
Neepseese said: On Tuesday in Science, we did activities with the different stages of matter. There was playdoh experiment, and mixing liquids, melting ice, and dissolving solids into water.
Kain said: On Tuesday, in Social Studies, we made postcards about Alberta's different areas (historical sites).
Ezleah said: Before recess, we did a sticky note exit ticket. We had to answer two digit minus and plus questions.
Ayla said: On Tuesday, me, Aaliyah and Emma made a tower outside at recess and we were doing a competition with other classes.
Yoon said: In gym, we played soccer and this is the second last day of soccer!
Nathan said: In Science, we did Show What You Know about states of matter.
Eli said: On Thursday, we did an early Fun Friday because we have no school on Friday.
Xavier said: On Thursday in gym, we played crazy soccer. There were different items and Mr. Newton was throwing them, and we kicked them and there were a lot of things like dice, tennis ball, waffle ball and dodgeball.
Rayan said: On Thursday, we made cards for our Kindergarten buddies. We asked them do an activity with us.
