Important Updates & Events
1. Parent Teacher Conferences are on Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28. You can book online via instructions from our NLS website: https://northernlights.cbe.ab.ca/news/northern-lights-news-for-november-17-21-20251113201437.
2. There is no school on Friday, November 28 for PT Conferences.
3. There are many students who have not returned library books since September or October. Please help your child be responsible with the books and to return them weekly. They all have a day, either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Friday is opened for everyone. Thanks for your help!
Learning Updates
Literacy: Our focus this week was engaging in various writing activities, focusing on using details and ensuring our writing has a proper beginning, middle and end. We also completed a whole school writing sample about a magical land that we've found!
Math: We finished learning about statistics by surveying our peers and using the data to make our own bar graphs. We also engaged in a "Show What You Know" assessment for this topic. Students started their next Math unit of Addition and Subtraction by practicing our simple skills through various group games.
Social Studies: Grade 3s used a Google Slides presentation to read about the six main regions of Alberta. They also looked at pictures of the six regions. Students wrote down jot notes and drew pictures in their visual journal as a part of their learning.
Science: This week, students engaged in a fun STEM challenge where they had to use teamwork and problem solving skills. Ask your child to explain the challenge and how they were able to complete it!
Field Study Friday: Students studied a biofact, and then wrote and drew it in detail. We focused on rocks and pebbles.
Student Highlights
Sam said: On Monday, we did a Metis art. It was suppose to look like beads but instead we used paint to make dots. We made an animal we sometimes feel like we are.
Emma said: We started soccer in gym.
Aram said: On Monday, we had a fire drill and the quietest class was the Kindergarteners!
Anshu said: On Monday, we planned a story that we are going to write on Tuesday. There was a secret door that nobody knows and your found it. It was about your adventure.
Guntaaj said: On Tuesday, we did Math and in Math, we used our graphs that we made on Monday and collected data by asking our class about the question and we wrote down options they could pick from and also my question was "What is your favourite big cat?" And lion and tiger had a tie.
Mila said: Today on Thursday, we saved Fred again and my group last time and this time, I put Fred in the life jacket and in the boat two times.
