Important Events and Updates:
1. Student Involved Conferences are next Thursday and Friday! Please book a time this weekend before bookings close. If you need help, please email me (ruqi@cbe.ab.ca). Your child will come with you to the Conference so that they can share their learning with you. Teachers will connect the work being shown to the report card marks and comments that were shared on February 24.
2. Spring Break begins soon! It is from March 21 to March 29. Thursday, March 19 is the last day with students at school before the break. It's also Fun Lunch Day if you ordered! There is no school on Friday, March 20th, but there are Student Involved Conferences if you booked a time.
3. I will be away for the week following Spring Break (March 30 to April 2). There is no school on Friday, April 3 due to Easter holidays. Ms. Dang be the guest teacher that week!
4. Tuesday, March 17th is St. Patrick's Day. Feel free to wear green!
Learning Updates:
Literacy: Grade 3s started poetry! We learned different figurative language, including similes, metaphors, hyperboles, personification, onomatopoeia, and alliteration. Students practiced using these literary devices through poems like a free verse poem and a Haiku.
Math: We continued to review multiplication and division. Grade 3 students also began the topic of time! We practiced reading and drawing with the minute and hour hand this week.
Social Studies: Students had the opportunity to meet Knowledge Keeper Chantal Chagnon. We learned about the drums she made and about the four animals that were used to make those drums. Students also began a new Social Studies Unit and our focus this week was learning about various natural resources.
Science/Cross-Curricular: Students continued their research projects about their interested country. This week, our focus was researching using various online sources, learning to check for credible information and summarizing ideas on our own Google Slides.
Oleg said: In gym we played real hockey which is games.
Aaliyah said: On Monday, me and Charvi at recess, we laid in the snow.
Guntaaj said: On Tuesday, since Ms. White came to our classroom for Music, we went to our Music room and there was a special Knowledge Keeper and she taught us a lot of stuff. She told some songs and we played some drums and there are four reasons for the drums. Chantal made the drums using elk, moose, deer and buffalo.
Charvi said: On Friday, we had Mustard Must Do but I didn't have to finish anything because I was focused this week and already done.
Emma said: On Friday, we worked on our Research Projects and some of us finished, some of us didn't.
