Important Reminders & Updates
We have an Indigenous Knowledge Keeper joining our school for the next two weeks. Each class will have an opportunity to learn from Knowledge Keeper Chantal Chagnon. Our day is Tuesday, March 10. You can find more information here!
Learning Updates
This week, a huge focus was Pink Shirt Day and the NLS Chinese Dragon Dance. Our class paraded the entire school and despite how tiring it was, we did it! We also learned about Pink Shirt Day from various artwork, Grade 5 leadership students, and a whole school assembly.
Literacy: We started a type of writing called persuasive writing. Students used various interesting prompts to try convincing the reader to buy an item using TIDE writing tool. Some of our topics included convincing the reader to buy a pet rock, or to buy a fake mustache! We also practiced fixing sentences with mistakes, while focusing on conventions like punctuation, spelling of common words, and capitals.
Math: We reviewed some multiplication and division strategies through Math stations and games, like the break apart method, arrays, drawing equal groups, skip counting, and repeated addition/subtraction. Students also practiced word problems with multiplication and division. The main topic was learning about the multiplication chart. By the end of Grade 3, students should be fluent with multiplication facts up to 10. I sent a paper copy home this week for students to practice at home!
Research Project: We started a very exciting project this week that encompasses all the subject areas, including Science (Computer Science, Earth Systems), Social Studies (Culture), English Language Arts and more! We look forward to sharing more in the upcoming weeks.
