Learning Updates
Literacy: Students are continuing to work on simple paragraphs using the hamburger format (introduction sentence, three details, concluding sentence). This week, we had a choice board and wrote topics of our own interest. For example, who your best friend is and why, or what's your favourite animal, or what is the best vacation you had. We also chose one special word that we want to "live by" and wrote about why we chose that word. The book we used to inspire us is called "One Word for Kids".
Math: We completed our Addition and Subtraction Show What You Know, which included our skills of regrouping, word problems, addition, subtraction, and fact families. I encourage all of the students to continue practicing over the next few months.
Social Studies: This week, we learned about how immigration has changed Alberta and made it more diverse! We role played and did a reader's theatre and learned about five different families and the challenges they faced when they immigrated to Alberta. Ask your child the difference between immigration and emigration!
Science: Grade 3s learned about different simple machines that Indigenous peoples used or still use. We also completed a Show What You Know for "Forces"!
Field Study: We continued quick sketches and focused outdoor items, like a stick or a stone.
Student Highlights
Guntaaj said: On Monday, we did a Art. It was a graffiti art which is like words with bright colours and block letters. We used popsicle sticks to make a fence and then we glued it together. After recess, it was dried so we took our one word which everyone chose and mine was "cool" and we wrote it on the fence and we decorated the whole fence. If we had time, we decorated the back.
Anshu said: On Tuesday, we did a survey about how we feel about school and the people here on our Chromebooks. If we finished early, we could do one of the activities that Ms. Qi said to us.
Jianna said: Today on Wednesday, we did a Show What You Know. One of them was Math and the other one was Science.
Xavier said: On Wednesday in gym, we did dribble maze but we needed bounce the ball instead of kicking because it wasn't soccer. Mr. Newton made it really hard and he put pool noodles out. And there was a big black bin of rainbow coloured flags.
