Important Reminders
1. A form was sent home on Wednesday regarding a Physical Education and Wellness topic. I wanted to clarify the topic of discussion that directly relates to the form outline. Here is the specific learning outcome:"Family structures can vary; may include extended family; and may consist of a single parent, a mother and a father, stepparents, two fathers, or two mothers." If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. Return all forms next week!
2. Please visit our website and see Mrs. Brinson's weekly emails for important Northern Lights News: website link. It has information about sharing cultural artifacts, Kindergarten registration, and Fun Lunch.
Learning Updates
Literacy: Students started to learn about how to write a paragraph. We practiced writing short paragraphs through a Winter Break activity, where students interviewed their partners and then wrote about their partner's Winter Break. We also practiced some common frequency words and how to read/spell them properly. We started a new class read aloud called "A Rover's Story".
Math: This week continued to be focused on addition and subtraction, specifically regrouping and word problems. We also reviewed money by engaging in a fun grocery shopping activity. We combined our addition/subtraction skills and money skill to solve word problems. Try some below!
Science: Grade 3s learned about simple machines. Some common ones are wedges, screws, wheels and axles, inclined planes or ramps, pulleys and levers. We talked about examples of each, and how they make work easier.Social Studies: We learned who the French settlers were and other early settlers of Alberta. We created a Francophone community map. Students also learned about what immigration and emigration means. Heritage Park is a great place to visit to see how life could've been long ago!
Fine Arts: Our focus this week was shading using oil pastels. We practiced shading techniques and then began making a beautiful display of the grassland region of Alberta!
