Important Updates and Events
1. Terry Fox Run is on Thursday, September 17! We are collecting Toonies for Terry all month long!
2. Fun lunch is also on Thursday, September 17. Order as soon as you can if you're interested!
Learning Updates
ELAL: This week, we started Literacy Stations. Students practiced Word Work, Quiet Reading and Writing stations. We also engaged in some writing activities about our brain and how it learns best!
Math: Grade 3 students started our first unit of "Place Value". Students practiced writing and reading numbers using place value charts. Students will need to represent numbers to hundred thousands, i.e., 198 432.
Social Studies: We learned about how to be great community members this week and how our actions can make an impact. We talked briefly about Terry Fox and how we can give back to the community through donations and helping people by being kind.
Art: We sketched a background of a place that brings up calmness and joy! Next week, we will be adding colours and then students will vote for their favourite one to make into our class land acknowledgement poster.
Health: We learned about tools that help regulate our bodies and emotions. We made our own calming rocks!
Student Highlights
Ellie: We finished our portraits with the brains!
HA: We went to the gym and played Tower Defence.
Muhammad: This week, we learned how to literacy stations and one of my favourites were read to self or read to someone.
Bronwyn: I like when we wrote about passwords!
Indica: I like when we did the self portraits because it was cool making ourselves in a drawing. We did Fun Friday and we have to finish our work and then we can play marble run, playdoh, Operation. It was fun!
Vedant: In Math, we learned about place values.
Aarisha: We did Social Studies and we learned about Terry Fox. We can donate for Toonies for Terry Fox and people with cancer. On Friday, we went to gym and we played Gaga Ball.
Hudson: We did Math on Wednesday. In Math, we did place values and then played Addition War. You would flip two cards at the exact same time. If you had an 8 and 1, you had to add and it equals 9. Someone had the highest number, you win.
Bennett: We went to Music and we learned about the O Canada national anthem.
Kierra: We did gym and we played Four Corners and tag.
AA: We did literacy centres and my favourite is Word Work!
Yanni: We did Art, where we like to go and what makes us calm when we go and we choose a place we like to go.
Waseem: On Friday, we did nature art picture that was not permanent and we were outside to do it and it was pretty find some stuff for making our names.
