March 16-19 Weekly Updates

Important Updates & Events

1. Over the Spring Break, I recommend you continuing to use Reflex Math website for basic facts practice (students all have their information on a card that was sent home a couple of months ago) and going on Epic Books website and using our class code (sjd1402) to read during the week days!

2. There is no school from Friday, March 20 to Friday, March 27. Happy Spring Break!

3. I am away the week after Spring Break (March 30 to April 2). Ms. Dang is in for me.

4. Friday, April 3 is Good Friday so there is no school.

5. Important: Please continue to practice multiplication and division! Students need to know their facts to 10, divide with remainders, do word problems, show two to three ways to find products/quotients and write related fact families. I will be giving another Multiplication/Division Show What You Know in April to ensure students haven't forgotten these crucial skills!

Learning Updates

Literacy: Students learned another type of poem this week - limericks! We learned that they originated from Ireland, and limericks have both rhyming and syllable rules. Students then wrote their own limericks! We also wrote another Haiku poem about our favourite season and created a beautiful artwork with it.

Math: We continued to learn to read time, draw time, and convert time between 12 and 24 hour clocks. We also learned new vocabulary used to say the time. For example, quarter to, half past, quarter past...etc. Students also did a Show What You Know just to see what we understood!

Social Studies: This week, students learned about various natural resources that can be found in the six main regions of Alberta. We also talked about what renewable and nonrenewable resources are.

Wellness: We learned about what makes our body grow and develop. We learned that so many things determine how we grow, like genetics, personality, environment, food, exercise and more! We also talked about why it's important to have a positive self-image, like how it builds our self-esteem and mindset, and how to do that (such as self-talk)!

Technology: Grade 3s had the opportunity to explore with 3D pens! We learned how tricky it can be and how we needed to be patient. We also had a lot of fun.
