Dec 15-19 Weekly Updates

 Important Reminders

1. Winter Break starts December 20! I will see you all back on Monday, January 5. 

2. There are some practice sheets on Google Classroom if you wish to work on some Math or writing over the break! Your child should know how to access it. If you need your child's username and password again, feel free to email me.

 

Learning Updates

Literacy: We did our best December monthly writing this week using procedural writing. It was about how to draw a gingerbread house or person. We also practiced more high frequency words, and wrote wishes for our families. 


Math: Our focus this week has been all about solving addition and subtraction word problems. We have also been playing with money and practicing by earning money to buy gifts from Ms. Qi's gift shop! We will continue these important skills in January as well.

Social Studies: We learned about the different treaties in Alberta. We also learned about the Metis community.


Student Highlights

Idres said: In gym, we played Snowman Battle. There was two teams and there was gaga ball and you hit it. If you hit the two big balls, you get one flag. The other team have to put the one ball on the spot. Mr. Newton checks how many flags you get. 

Aram said: On Friday, we got to wear our PJs and we got to watch a movie. Some kids got to go to other classes and if we were done our food, then we could play with the playdoh or the legos. I was in Ms. Qi's class.

Yui said: On Friday in the morning, we had Mustard Must Dos and we had to finish our work and then we could play Fun Friday. 

Aryan said: On Friday, we got a choice to watch a movie and got to wear our pajamas!

Ryker said: On Friday, we watched a movie. Our choices were Zootopia, the classic movies like Frosty the Snowman, Arthur Christmas and Frozen 2. And we get to have games in Ms. Qi's room if you didn't want to watch.

Yoon said: On Wednesday, in gym, we played Santa's Workshop and then we ride scooter thingys and we get to go to the workshop and stole toys. But there's no guard people, but we can get our toys and then bring to our team and then the team with the most toys wins. 

William said: On Friday, me and Aryan created a new word: dinga. You use it anytime, kinda like dinga coins? Aryan made this word.

Dec 8-12 Weekly Updates

Weekly Updates & Reminders

1. Wednesday, December 17 is our last festive day! Feel free to wear green or red or festive sweaters, hats, socks or headbands. 

2. Thursday, December 18 is Fun Lunch for those that ordered food!

3. Friday, December 19 is PJ Day! It is also the last day before Winter Break begins. 

4. Dress appropriately for the weather!

5. Just a friendly reminder that electronics of any type (including cell phones) should not be used during school time by students. There has been a lot of students with phones in the mornings and at recesses. Please have a chat with your child. If they require a phone for safety, it should be completely turned off and in their backpacks until after school. 

6. If you ordered hoodies or t-shirts, you should be receiving them on Tuesday!


Learning Updates

Literacy: This week has been focused on using fun adjectives and adverbs in our writing during a picture prompt practice. We are trying not to write skeleton sentences, which are simple, short and maybe a little boring. We also practiced our high frequency words in a fun way called "Scribble Spelling". Lastly, we listened to many Wintery stories!



Math: Grade 3 students are continuing to practice addition and subtraction to 1000 with and without regrouping. We are also reviewing money in a fun way. Students are playing grocery games, and we are also earning money in our red envelopes to be able to buy gifts from Ms. Qi next week!


Science: Students explored contact forces using a playdoh. We also learned about the four different types of contact forces, including applied force, tension, elastic/spring and friction.





Field Study: We made snow in three different ways! Then we compared it to real snow and described how they're similar or different. 



: All the Grade 3 students chose different card making stations and made our seniors at Newport Harbour a holiday card to brighten their day!


Student Highlights

Salaar said: On December 8, 2025, we learned motion and force. The forces are elastic/spring, tension, friction and applied force.

Charvi said: On Tuesday in Science, we learned about motion. Everyone got playdoh and learned about motion.

Guntaaj said: On Tuesday, in gym, we did group skipping and there were some tricks we could practice while we did group skipping. One was when you skip, you could turn around. Two was that when you skip, you touch the group and skip. And three was that the two people spinning the rope and the person in the middle can run in and if he gets tired and thinks he's about to fail in the next spin, he runs out and the next person goes. 

Oleg said: On Wednesday, we made Christmas cards for the seniors. I made them in Ms. Pham's class!

Yoon said: On Wednesday in gym, we played group skipping and today was the second last day of group skipping. 

Aram said: On Wednesday in gym, there were cones for group skipping and we played helicopter with two Grade Fivers. 

Rayan said: On Thursday, we finished our senior cards by writing sentences in our cards. I wrote "I hope you have joy today."
